오세린
나는 지난 몇 년간 길거리 액세서리를 수집해 세상에 하나뿐인 반지와 브로치 등을 만들어왔다. 2012년 개인전 <모방과 속임수> 이후로, 이 장신구들은 미술관, 백화점, 패션잡지 등 자본주의 시스템 안에서 미술작품으로 소비되면서 모방과 복제가 만연한 현실을 풍자했다. 나는 2016년과 2018년, 저가低價 액세서리 공장이 위치한 중국 이우义乌 Yiwu 와 베트남 동반Đồng Văn을 방문했고, 그 곳 사람들에게 “’진짜’란 무엇일까”라는 질문을 던졌다.

Serin Oh
I have spent the past several years collecting accessories from street vendors and using them to create new works by copying them and breaking them into pieces, then reassembling and recasting them into one of a kind rings and brooches. Even as they are consumed as art in the museums, department stores, and fashion magazines of the capitalist system, these pieces of jewelry satirize a reality in which imitations and copies are rampant. In 2016 and 2018, in search of the starting point of this irony, I headed out to two of the outposts that sustain this world’s flashy radiance, Yiwu(China) and Đồng Văn(Vietnam), where many cheap accessories are produced. There I asked the people I met for an answer to the question “what does it mean for something to be real?”
